On May 13, Chery held a safety launch event themed "Bottom Line" at its collision laboratory in Wuhu, officially unveiling its first C-segment flagship sedan — the Fengyun A9L. Positioned as "above-class luxury," this car matches traditional C-segment vehicles in size but aims for manufacturing standards on par with million-yuan luxury cars. At the event, Chery demonstrated the Fengyun A9L's hardcore safety performance through a series of extreme tests.

Behind these tests is Chery's "cost-no-object" investment in body materials. The Fengyun A9L's high-strength steel and aluminum account for 88%, with hot-formed steel reaching 2,000 MPa (equivalent to withstanding 20 tons of pressure per square centimeter), and the front end is equipped with four energy-absorbing boxes and dual crash beams. In addition, the Kunpeng square-blade battery features 41 layers of protection, and cabin electromagnetic radiation approaches zero, with even the safety needs of pregnant passengers taken into consideration.

Technical configuration: hybrid system and intelligent driving are highlights

The Fengyun A9L is equipped with the Kunpeng super hybrid CDM 6.0 system, which the official claims delivers a combined range exceeding 2,500 km, fuel consumption of just 3.65 L per 100 km, and 260 km of pure electric range. The powertrain has undergone 15,000 hours of bench testing and 2 million kilometers of road testing, and comes with a lifetime warranty. In terms of intelligent driving, the Falcon 700 system is equipped with 27 sensors and supports high-speed emergency obstacle avoidance and "ghost probe" braking, though its actual performance still needs to be verified by users.

In terms of luxury experience, the new car adopts a baby-grade eco-material cabin, with formaldehyde concentration only 1/10 of the national standard, gap precision controlled to 0.1 mm, and is equipped with 9 airbags and an ultra-long side curtain airbag. However, whether these features can truly support its "million-yuan luxury" positioning still requires consumers to experience it for themselves.

Editor's note:

The launch of the Fengyun A9L demonstrates Chery's ambition to move upmarket. Its "stacking" of safety and technology is indeed impressive, especially the extreme test results, which set a new benchmark for the safety standards of new energy vehicles.

However, the high-end market is not just a contest of specifications, but also a battle of brand perception and user experience. Chery needs to prove that the Fengyun A9L can not only "benchmark against million-yuan luxury cars," but also withstand long-term scrutiny in detail quality, after-sales service, and user reputation. For consumers, if the pricing is reasonable, this car may become a high-cost-performance "safe choice"; but if the price is too high, it may face a dimensional strike from joint-venture brands.

Let us look forward together to the official launch of the Fengyun A9L.
