In the extreme towing challenge segment, within a closed venue, a production, unmodified Hongqi G919 weighing approximately 3.1 tons used elastic connection and rigid connection towing methods respectively to pull a "road train" of 9 Jiefang heavy trucks connected in series with a total convoy weight of 312.6 tons, achieving a traction-to-weight ratio of nearly 1:100. During the challenge, the Jiefang heavy truck convoy was in neutral throughout and provided no drive at all, with only the Hongqi G919 providing traction. As a result, the Hongqi G919 experienced zero wheel slip throughout and successfully towed the Jiefang heavy truck convoy past the finish line, declaring the "proof of strength" of Chinese luxury off-roading.
The outstanding towing performance benefits from the Hongqi G919's vector four-motor millisecond-level distribution, independently allocating torque, with wheel-end torque as high as 18,500 N·m, and torque error at each wheel controlled within 2.5 Nm. The Hongqi G919's power showed no degradation throughout a hundred consecutive slope charges. This first benefits from its ultra-strong power combination of a 2.0T super hybrid engine + high-power generator, with peak power generation reaching 125 kW and dynamic stable power generation of 90 kW, providing strong power retention capability for the vehicle. During heavy climbing, it runs while efficiently recharging, so the battery level does not plummet. Second, thanks to the systematic design of the vehicle's thermal management, the Hongqi G919 is equipped with the industry-leading 3 kW high-voltage high-power cooling fan, improving heat dissipation capacity by 30%.
