In the extreme towing challenge segment, within a closed venue, a production, unmodified Hongqi G919 with a curb weight of about 3.1 tons used two towing methods—elastic connection and rigid connection—to tow a "road train" formed by 9 Jiefang heavy trucks in series with a total formation weight of 312.6 tons, for a towing mass ratio of nearly 1:100. During the challenge, the Jiefang truck fleet remained in neutral throughout and provided no drive at all; only the Hongqi G919 provided traction. As a result, the Hongqi G919 experienced zero slippage throughout and successfully towed the Jiefang truck fleet past the finish line, declaring the "proof of strength" of Chinese luxury off-roading.
The outstanding towing performance benefited from the Hongqi G919's vector four-motor millisecond-level distribution, with independent torque distribution, wheel-end torque as high as 18,500 N·m, and torque error at each wheel controlled within 2.5 Nm. Whichever side slips, that side receives more force, achieving millisecond-level ultimate control. At the extreme off-road testing ground—Badain Jaran Desert—the Hongqi G919 completed four extreme tests: a hundred consecutive steep-slope charges without power degradation, a single vehicle's high-speed ascent to the top of Bilutu Peak, the "Desert Everest," 8 vehicles simultaneously launching up "Despair Slope," and a complete vehicle rollover from the top of a 150-meter-high dune. Through these brutal trials, it perfectly interpreted the composure and confidence of hardcore off-roading.
The Hongqi G919's power showed no degradation throughout a hundred consecutive slope charges. First, this benefited from its super-powerful combination of a 2.0T super hybrid engine + high-power generator, with peak power generation reaching 125 kW and dynamic stable power generation of 90 kW, providing the vehicle with strong power-retention capability. During heavy climbing, it runs while efficiently recharging, so the battery level does not plummet. Second, it benefited from the systematic design of the vehicle's thermal management.
